Trainer's Statement

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always felt a deep connection with animals. As a child, I befriended all of the neighborhood dogs and became known as the person to call upon for dog-walking and sitting. My interest in training methods and dog cognition continued into adulthood, fueled by my desire to connect with and train our family dogs, and eventually led me to more formal education, mentorship programs and certifications, and eventually to the Atlas Assistance Dogs program and certification for Trainers.

My love of training, teaching and learning continues as I continually strive to hone my practice through reading, workshops and seminars, and through active membership in the dog training community, collaborating and learning alongside fellow trainers. Throughout, I have been dedicated to using and promoting humane, force-free training methods.

In addition to training professionally since 2013, I have been an elementary school educator for nearly two decades. I have a special passion for working with people, especially young children, to provide teaching and learning experiences. Whether working with an adult, a child, a dog or a combination of these, teaching begins with building a relationship based on communication, clear expectations, goal-achievement and flexible problem-solving.

As an Atlas trainer, I want to bring together my expertise and passion for working with people and their dogs, so that they may reap the benefits of training and certifying their own service animal.
