June 2021 Updates

Summer is Here!

The sun is out, and with it, many exciting updates! A new certified team, new certified trainers, and a whole lot of new Team Facilitators. Meet all these new incredible people. And don’t miss out on our blog to learn how to keep your dog safe and happy in the heat, as well as our blog about how service dogs support people coping with PTSD

Congratulations to Our Newest Certified Team!

Meet our latest Atlas Certified Team and help us celebrate them. Melodie and Gizmo have worked extra hard during this hard year to reach their training goals.

Melodie tells us that Gizmo offers her “peace of mind” by alerting her when her blood sugar is dropping even before her glucose monitor picks it up. She “looks forward to getting out more and not having to constantly check [her] blood sugar”. Congratulations to this amazing team!

If you could benefit from guidance in the training of your service dog, our Team Certification program might be the right fit for you. Find out how we support people with a wide range of disabilities achieve their training goals and thrive with their service dog at their side.

Meet Our New Atlas Certified Trainers

We are pleased to announce that three incredible trainers recently completed Atlas’ Trainer Academy and are now Atlas Certified Trainers! Meet Linda, Jennifer  and Imogen. They have all worked hard to complete the Academy and we couldn’t be happier to call them Atlas trainers.

Check out Linda, Jennifer, and Imogen’s bios, specialties, and availabilities by clicking on their names above.

Learn to Train Service Dogs

Are you a trainer interested in developing your skills and learning how to train service dogs while working with their handlers? Become an Atlas Certified Trainer just like Linda, Jennifer and Imogen!

Beyond gaining new skills and knowledge, completing Atlas’ Trainer Academy earns you 21 CEUs for CCPDT and KPA.

Atlas Certified Trainers help increase access to ethical service dog training for many more people who need support and may not be able to access that support currently.

Congratulations to Our New Team Facilitators!

We are so excited to show off our new cohort of Team Facilitators. This group has spent the last few month completing course work, and attending 4 fulls days of virtual workshops to prepare them to work hands-on with our clients. The dedication, the passion, and the openness in the group was simply incredible to see. Through the workshop sessions, all got to learn from one another on topics ranging from understanding disabilities and recognizing ableism, communication and learning styles, implementing training plans, and so much more. It is thanks to our facilitators that we can support our clients in the training of their service dog. Thank you to this new cohort for your commitment and incredible passion.

A New Partnership to Support Veterans

We are delighted to tell you about a an incredible partnership formed with Growing Veterans (GV). GV empowers veterans to cultivate purpose and belonging by growing food, community and each other. And their vision is to end the isolation that leads to veteran suicide. Some Atlas staff and volunteers took their week-long peer support training, giving us insight into the experiences of veterans, and how to better support veterans as well as non-veterans. These are now skills that we can teach our facilitators as they work with our clients.

We also have a very generous donor to thank, who, because of their incredible generosity, will allow us to support five or more veterans involved with GV to train their own service dogs at a reduced to no cost. Thank you to this kind and caring donor for their gift.
